Date Affected Buildings Notification

Effective July 1

All buildings with HVAC sytems

The cooling setpoint for the university’s HVAC systems is transitioning from 75 F to 76 F. This adjustment accomplishes several needs. It will allow our HVAC system to recover from temperature fluctuations between rooms. It preserves the cooling capacity for our Thermal Energy Storage (TES) tanks, which store 2 million gallons of water cooled overnight, during the summer months' extreme temperatures. And it is part of SDSU’s efforts to shift further toward sustainability goals by reducing the impact on the environment. Thermal comfort may be affected during this transition, especially on warmer days.

April 29 - May 17 Special Events Operation Center
Painting the exterior of SEOC trailers in Lot 17; install fence and gate to separate parking lot UPD/FS. Parking in the immediate area will be limited. Parking of personal and state vehicles should be along the west fence during the project to prevent overspray. Fence installation should not affect normal operations in the area.
May 6 - July 30 Student Services East Suite 1105
Renovation of SSE 1105 to allow for a reconfigured offices space and additional egress. This will include the relocation of one corridor door, demolition of the interior walls and finishes. Construction will include new walls, electrical work, new ceiling, new flooring, and new finishes. The work will primarily be contained to the SSE 1105 space, however, there will be work in the corridor for the relocation of the existing door. There will be some noisy work from the removal of the flooring in the suite. The noisier work will be limited to early hours prior to 8 a.m. All efforts will be made for the debris removal to take place during the early hours to limit impact.
May 8 - 15 Love Library
Abatement to replace a broken drain line in the HVAC shaft. Room 192 will be inaccessible for the duration of the project. There will be periods of elevated noise levels from air machines during the asbestos abatement. The doors to the room will remain closed, which will reduce the noise impact to occupants. Additionally, air will be filtered and vented to outside, but there may be a slight citrus smell detectable. Environmental Health & Safety will be monitoring the progress.
May 10 - August 9 EIS, Physics & Physics Astronomy
Demolition of the upper and lower roofs of the Physics building. Removal and reinstallation of the existing roof mounted HVAC systems. Installation of new roof insulation to improve drainage, new roof membrane system, and new down spouts. he roofing project will clear unused equipment from the Physics roof, improve the drainage from the roof, provide a new roof membrane system to better waterproof the building, provide updated equipment pads, and provide utility access for future equipment needs on the roof. The work will be focused on the lower and upper levels of the Physics roof. The work will require scaffold access to the roof, staging of materials on the ground, and lifting equipment to be stationed around the building. Fencing will be placed on the north side of the building which will impact the walkways at the intersection of Physics, Physics Astronomy, and EIS. Signage will be in place for pedestrian traffic routes around these areas. On the southeast side of the Physics building there will be scaffolding and fencing set up in the parking spaces to allow access to the roof. The project will require debris removal using multiple trucks per day, the vehicle route will be to the north side of the building between Physics and EIS. The debris removal operation will run through mid-June with multiple trucks cycling throughout the day. There will be noise during the demolition of the concrete on the roof to include concrete saws, jackhammers, and compressors on the ground level. Dust will be minimal as the contractor will be using a wet saw process to limit the amount of dust produced. The supplemental HVAC systems on the roof will be secured for the duration of the project which will affect some rooms, the main building HVAC will remain in operation.
May 13 - 14 North Life Science
Facilities Services will be coordinating installation of water detection devices in the North Life Science Building. Contractors will be accessing multiple locations throughout this 2 day period. Multiple spaces will be accessed throughout the building; no utility interruptions will be performed as part of this installation. Every space with water utilities will be accessed during installation. The building is showing premature weathering of the stucco coloring at most visible areas. Our solution is to paint the stucco with an approved, breathable exterior paint.
May 13 - July 3 Conrad Prebys Aztec Student Union
Associated Students will be contracting Century Painting to paint the entire exterior of the Student Union building, including the interior courtyard walls. During the project, you may see scaffolding attached to the building and large boom lifts. Therefore, there may be momentary impacts to Aztec Circle Drive. Since the project will be completed in phases, impacts will vary based on the timeline. During this time, campus should anticipate sidewalk closures and vehicular traffic lane closures near the Student Union. However, pedestrian and vehicular thru traffic paths will be maintained the entire duration of the project with alternate routes marked by signage and traffic cones. Impacts will be removed at the end of each business day, and sidewalk and road conditions will be restored.

On June 15, 16, 22 and 23, Aztec Circle Drive will be closed from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. The closure will only affect the turn in from College Avenue up to the end of the Student Union building. Detour signs will be in place.
May 13 - August 9 Adams Humanities, Arts & Letters, Communication, Engineering, GMCS, Lamden Hall, Love Library, Music, and Student Services West
The project is to include demolition, renovations, and upgrades to the existing room finishes and AV equipment in all rooms. Room work sites include AH 2111, AL 102, COM 205, E 300, GMCS 325, LH 254, LL 408, MU 245, and SSW 2650. Additionally, the project will require asbestos abatement of the flooring in rooms MU 245 and LH 254. The work is being done to enhance the functionality and performance of the instructional AV equipment in each room, providing a better learning experience for all users and staff. Periodic noise and odors associated with demolition and abatement. Periodic noise and odors during the duration of the project associated with drilling, anchoring of materials, and painting.
The path of travel during the demolition process may impact the floors of each room between May 13, 2024 and May 31, 2024.
May 15 Love Library, Love Library Addition, & Manchester Hall
